About Sigurd Canoe Company

Sigurd Canoe Co.

Launched by avid canoeist and lover of everything outdoors, Jamie Cooper started making paddles in the backyard of his childhood home with nothing more than a chisel and block plane. After a small interest quickly turned into an obsession, Sigurd Canoe Company was launched.

Where does the name come from?

Sigurd Canoe Company was named in honor of Sigurd F. Olson. He was one of the most influential people when it came to helping protect the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area and establishing Voyagers National Park. His writings and teachings of land ethics and conservation are still vital to protecting wilderness areas today. Because of his hard work and dedication to the canoeing community for so many years, Sigurd Canoe Company is a tribute to a man who has influenced more people than he ever knew.

Our Paddles

We are committed to creating high quality handmade wooden canoe paddles. The paddles are made from various types of wood to create a functional, strong, lightweight paddle that will stand the test of time. All of the wilderness paddles are reinforced with fiberglass and epoxy tipped on the blades. They are then finished in several coats of a spar varnish. The grips are oiled for a smooth feel in your hand while paddling. This makes them great for trips of all kinds!

Paddle care

Wiping down your paddle after each use will help the longevity. The grips should be oiled before storing away for winter and then again in the spring. This will help protect the wood and keep a nice, smooth feel in your hand while using.
